Film Festival Focus 2011

Music from the Music Sales Group featured in the latest crop of films to grace the film festival circuit.    The venerable Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah offered up its usual cornucopia of independent movies this January, and our music helped tell the stories of quite a few.  Most prominent was the winner of Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize, Drake Doremus’ film Like Crazy, which was scored by none other than new Music Sales signing Dustin O’Halloran.  The fêted film also featured three tracks from O’Halloran’s new album Lumiere: “We Move Lightly,” “Fragile N. 4” and “Opus 55.”  The unconventional love story that is Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur utilized our music, as did the sensational Life in a Day, comprised entirely of YouTube footage.  The dark Irish comedy The Guard starring Don Cheadle fittingly featured “Everything Happens to Me.”  The documentary Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest paid testimony to the band’s respect for the music of the late Minnie Riperton through the inclusion of “Inside My Love” and Tribe Called Quest songs “Lyrics to Go,” “Bonita Applebum” and “Check the Rhime” that sample Riperton material.  All in all, our music played a part in a diverse array of new independent films.
